Filmmaker Laura Gabbert and I completed work on our 6-part television series "The Power of Film" with legendary UCLA film professor Howard Suber. It premiered on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in January, 2024 and is now streaming on Max (formerly HBO-Max, on their TCM Hub). It will soon be available for the educational market via Good Docs.

The series, which I executive produced and helped write and edit, interweaves dramatic scenes from the most popular and memorable American films along with Professor Suber’s brilliant teachings about how and why they work. Laura and I were both students and TA's for Professor Suber back when we were at UCLA's graduate film school. This project has been a competely independent, low-budget labor-of-love which took many years to make. I hope you'll be inspired by "The Power of Film" and help spread the love to filmmakers, film students, and cine-enthusiasts alike.

"Louder Than Guns" is a documentary I've been making this last year about gun violence and gun rights in America featuring Ketch Secor, his band Old Crow Medicine Show and Public Radio's David Greene (host of "Left, Right & Center"). Through the power of music and the seemingly unpopular notion of actually listening to all sides of this incendiary issue, we've been filming a series of powerful and sometimes healing conversations about how to create safer communities and a better future for this country.

The project was inspired by this op-ed piece in the New York Times by Ketch Secor after last year's Covenant School shooting in Nashville. This short radio segment with Ketch and David explains the film and our intentions. It was recently recorded on WPLN's "This is Nashville" on the one-year anniversary of that tragedy.
