Official website for documentary film director Doug Pray. DOUG PRAY, DIRECTOR Director Doug Pray is best known for his feature-length documentary films about American subcultures. His work includes “SCRATCH,” about hip-hop DJs, and “HYPE!,” about the explosion of the Seattle music scene in the early '90, both of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, received rave reviews and worldwide theatrical distribution. His most recent work includes “SURFWISE” a portrait of the legendary Paskowitz surfing family which premiered at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival and is being released this spring by Magnolia Pictures, “BIG RIG” a stunning portrait of America told through the eyes of long-haul truck drivers which is being released this summer by ScreenMedia Films, and “INFAMY,” an intense journey into the lives and minds of six notorious graffiti writers, released in 2006. Doug is a member of the DGA, has done a wide variety of commissioned short films and documentary-style commercials in recent years, and, in 2006, won an Emmy in for his advocacy campaign about HIV-AIDS awareness. Born in Denver, Colorado, he grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, has a BA in sociology from Colorado College, and an MFA from UCLA's School of Film and Television. He resides in Los Angeles.
